I have published quite a few of the documents that you will find in this
section with Adobe Acrobat, so if you need the reader please
go here.
Within these pages I will try to tell the on going story of Blooming Grove,
including local history and most of all the genealogies of these families.
The Blooming Grove Historical Society that was established in 1978. I am a
current member of the society but, these pages are not affiliated with them but
the group may be of interest. I have an online application for those of you that
are interested.
Blooming Grove was established by several families over a period of years,
surnames include: Heim, Heischle, Kehrer, Kies (Kiess), Kurz (Kurtz), Marquardt,
Mutschler, Scheel (Shale), Schiedt, Stäbler (Stabler), Staiger, Stolz (Stoltz),
Ulmer, Wagner, Walz (Waltz), Wolf, Yung (Young).
The Blooming Grove settlement has been an interest of mine since the late
1980's. It is an area rich in history and tradition. There were 20
original families that traveled together from Mühringen and Eßlingen in the
present day state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The families were made up
of various people who either came with their families or started their families
here. The information that is on this web site is based on a Family Tree
that was printed circa 1860. There was only one copy in existence that I
was aware of, and it belonged to my grandparents, Fred and Zella Stabler.
I had been working on this document off and on for about 7+ years, doing
translation and recording of the information that it contained. The
original document is rich and vibrant in the story that it tells about the
settlement of Blooming Grove. The entire document, both in the original
German and English languages, are contained below.
I have maintained the tree in as original a format as possible for web
publishing (limited experience on my part). There is an explanation of how
it is put together at the end of the document, which is how it is listed on the
original. I suggest that you start there first. Also if I could not
read a letter or word from the original I have placed "_____" to indicate that
this was unreadable. I also have a picture so
that you can see how wonderful a piece of work it is. From the people
listed on the tree and the people that are listed as being deceased it is
estimated that this was printed sometime around 1859 - 1861. I hope that
you enjoy viewing this, and hope that it answers some questions for you.
You will find some people that were never listed in any genealogical book on the
descendants of Blooming Grove because of their age when they died. So look
closely at the layout. If you have any question about this please feel
free to contact me. You will find the
Blooming Grove family tree here.
I would like to thank Mrs. Steiner of the Centerville High School German
Department, Centerville, Ohio for the translation of the German to English.
She was a great help in allowing me to finish this project. My next step
in this project is to reproduce this back to its original form. The actual
printed piece is 28" square, so it is rather large. I have talked with
some printers about the possibility of doing this and have had some interest,
but the cost is very prohibitive for me at this time. If a genealogical
society or some private individuals would be interested in helping me to
complete this project please contact me by either
e-mail or regular mail at: Kevin L. Sholder, 48 Esquire Avenue, Centerville,
OH 45459.
Below is a list of the families and their original name spellings as they exist
on the tree. Descendant information can be found in my
